Dave Sissens is no stranger to extreme challenges for charity having successfully completed a solo unsupported walk to the North Pole in 2012. However, in line with Dave's motto to continually 'raise the bar' he set himself another monumental challenge for 2015:

"In April 2015, I intend to run the London marathon again. This time however, after completing the Paris Marathon, I intend to continue my run from underneath the Eiffel Tower, Paris. From there, I will run EVERY mile to London (including the channel) and be the first person to do so. Many have travelled the distance from Pairs to London, but nobody has run EVERY mile - (yet). The following day, myself and a fantastic team will aim to complete the Virgin London Marathon 2015. This will be a run of duration circa 300 miles and most days will require me to run at least a marathon in duration. After 13 days of running every day, I will be finished. I am doing this to raise money for the Children with Cancer UK charity and EVERY penny pledged will go direct to the charity. Many, many thanks for your interest, support and donations."

We have a great relationship with Dave, having featured his incredible North Pole achievements on our award-winning podcast Maximise Your Potential, so it was no surprise that he turned to us to help raise awareness for his latest challenge. His request was somewhat different to what we expected. Instead of asking us to raise awareness for his challenge or sponsor him (both of which we'll gladly do anyway!), he asked for someone to run one of the marathons with him… specifically his one from the docks of Dover through to Faversham where he was not scheduled to have any other support runners.... So, on (April 23rd), our Head of Marketing, Kevin Matthews, will join Dave for what will be Dave's 12 consecutive marathon!!!!

Please read the complete press release below to learn more about Dave and this incredible challenge:

Dave Sissens, aged 40 from Great Dunmow in Essex will attempt to become the first man to run the entire distance between Paris and London, including the English Channel, in April this year to raise funds for children’s charity Children with Cancer UK. Dave, who works at CLS Services Ltd, will run the Paris marathon on 12th April, before starting his mammoth challenge from under the iconic Eiffel Tower early the following morning. He will run approximately one marathon every day, before arriving in Calais, where he plans to continue running on a treadmill on board the cross channel ferry, which has been kindly supplied by P&O Ferries. He will then continue running from Dover to London in time to run the Virgin Money London Marathon on 26th April 2015 – his 41st birthday.

"A total of over 325 miles, 650,000 steps, 78 hours of running, 600,000 heartbeats, 13 gallons of sweat and over 4 hours in an ice bath!"

Dave said...

“No one has ever run the ‘long way’ from Paris to London, including running across the English Channel, so I can’t wait to get started and raise as much money as I can. I was lucky enough to see for myself the work that Children with Cancer UK do and throughout my challenge, the thought of what young children have to endure will definitely keep me moving.”

Dave is no stranger to fundraising and has, to date, raised over £30,000 for Children with Cancer UK. He has run several marathons over the past 15 years and in 2012 walked unsupported to the North Pole, but has never attempted anything of this magnitude. He has already received phenomenal support for his challenge including rooms donated by The London Marriott Hotel County Hall, Renaissance Parc Trocadero; products from Helly Hanson, Garmin, Brooks, Dunmow Luxury Travel; sponsorship from Investigo, Paddon Facilities Management and the support of an Olympic physiotherapist, who will be alongside Dave throughout. In London he will join the Children with Cancer UK Superheroes team for the Virgin Money London Marathon and in total hopes to raise over £50,000. Over 1,300 runners will be dressed in superhero caps and headbands at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon in a bid to raise millions of pounds for Children with Cancer UK to fund vital research for children suffering from cancer. Ben Twyman, from Children with Cancer UK said:

“We wish Dave huge amounts of luck for his forthcoming challenge. He’s one of the most determined men I have ever met, so we know he’ll give it everything he has and we can’t wait to see him cross that finish line in Pall Mall one very happy and tired individual.”
