Jenrick Engineering is very pleased to report that the Food and Drink Industry will create 137,000 new jobs over the next 5 years, offering a huge boost of confidence for employment within this sector. The figures were reported by the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) at their annual conference, and formed part of an overall presentation which highlighted the importance that the Food and Drink Industry continues to play within the overall UK economy. The 137,000 jobs, which represents 34% of the total workforce within this sector, will be mainly required to replace existing employees within the sector who will be retiring. Angela Coleshill, the FDF's director of competitiveness, added:
"Technology will play an increasing role in the future shape of the workforce. We have noticed particular skills shortages for Food Scientists and Technologists and Engineers, with 20% of companies (we've surveyed) reporting shortages."
She then went on to explain that the skill shortages will lead to greater competition for Food and Drink Industry Talent:
"The industry is entering a transition, which will be highlighted by the increasing tuition fees (reducing the number of new graduates coming into the sector). As such, competition for talent will intensify and companies will have to raise their game in order to attract the best talent to their business."
Julie Alton, Managing Director of Jenrick Engineering, a recruitment specialist for the Food and Drink Industry, explained how their company was aiding companies that have been affected by this transition:
"I can completely concur with Angela Coleshill's statements; we are receiving more and more calls from Companies within the Food and Drink Industry expressing that they cannot fill their existing vacancies using traditional advertising methods. These companies appreciate the benefits that a specialist recruitment consultancy can offer, with regards to having access to a far greater pool of candidates. Competition for talent is increasing, and our specialism is being able to match the best candidates to the best companies."
