Helping Hand Winner - Gosset Ward
Congratulations to
Kerry Mumby from Jenrick Engineering who nominated Gosset Ward Special Baby Care Unit for the October 2009 Helping Hand incentive.
Gosset Ward is located within Northampton General Hospital specialising in Neonatal Intensive Care for premature babies and babies who need close care in the first few days of their lives.
Kerry’s nephew was born premature at 29 weeks and was immediately admitted to Gosset Ward who cared for him for his first 11 weeks of life. Gosset don't just save the babies, they support parents through difficult times. The nursing staff provide parents with an incredible amount of support, guidance, shoulders to cry on, hugs and laughter.
“Gosset does not receive any public funding; it is run purely on donations and fund-raising activities. Gosset have built up a fabulous reputation for specialist care, they take in babies from throughout Northamptonshire and regularly take in additional babies from Leicestershire and even Oxfordshire areas, because of their experience and expertise.” Kerry stated
.
They are currently trying to raise funds for a new incubator, essentially an artificial womb. Kerry’s nephew spent the first 8 wks of his life in one. It costs £30K and they're currently over 3quarters of the way there with funds. This new piece of equipment will help to save another baby's life. Gosset currently take in approximately 1400 babies per year. This money could contribute to making it 1401 babies.
The £1,000 from the Helping Hand Incentive will go toward a new incubator. The ward has been fundraising for this desperately needed piece of equipment for the past two years.
Plus, Simon Holdings will match any donations from staff.
