Jenrick ranked first in Best Company Awards for Green concerns

Recycling-at-Jenrick 1

Jenrick’s 6th place success in the 2009 Sunday Times 100 Best Company Awards was attributable to consistently high scores across all categories. However, within Green and Environmental issues, Jenrick achieved 1st place.

This is an exceptional feat when you consider that only two years ago the company had an extremely limited approach to envrionmental concerns.

So, what has changed over the last 24 months to make the staff of Jenrick feel so proud about the environmental activities that the company is now practising on a daily basis?

Paper usage

First and foremost, it has to be the company’s commitment to paper usage and recycling.

Every office within the Jenrick Group has made a 100% on-going commitment to recycle as much paper as possible – and this is after all paper has been re-used (ie both sides) as much as possible.

It is important mention that we have also moved as much of our marketing material into electronic format too. Brochures are now all initially sent in PDF format and when our consultants do still have to take printed copies, short digitial print runs are always the preferred option.

FSC paper

Furthermore, our company has moved all printed paper onto FSC. For those who maybe unaware, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ensures that all of its accredited paper comes from sustantable sources, ie. if a tree is cut down to make the paper another is planted in its place.

We are now in the process of trialing FSC printer and copier paper with the objective of moving this paper across throughout the Group.

Supporting the Local and Global Environment

Involvement within these areas would have also played a part in how Jenrick staff responded to questions on green issues.

Jenrick undertakes several co-ordinated projects every year with the local community, the goal, to aid local projects that would normally not receive the recognition and funding support that some higher profile/national charities and initiatives receive; St. Phillips Special Needs School is one such example.

In addition, our Group is also actively involved in wider-reaching activities to help minimise the impact our company has upon the environment, with the Catlin Arctic Survey being a perfect example of this.

Further steps

We have all made substantial progress over the last two years but we are under no illusion that we cannot improve further.

We are continually re-investing and updating our IT to move our PCs and Servers onto more energy efficient platforms, as well as generating more awareness for energy usage in general by promoting schemes such as the Carbon Trust’s Switch it Off campaign.

Importantly, we do try and improve on an on-going basis using feedback mechanisms, such as monthly meetings and suggestion boxes, to encourage ideas from all corners of the Group as well as aligning our business with partners who follow similar approaches.
